Troy police near goal to get official police cat

Last week, the Troy Police Department tweeted that if they could get 10,000 followers by the end of the month, they would get an official police cat as a mascot. The department is nearly its goal, with approximately 9,500 followers as of this writing.

The department’s promotion seems to have captured the public interest, with the follower count jumping from 6,600 just last Friday, and numerous memes shared online. The Michigan Humane Society also brought some furry friends by the station for a visit.

If the police meet their goal, they will likely turn to social media to help pick out a name for the pet, according to an interview with WVYZ.
