Local 5 Year Old’s Final Act of Love Helps Homeless Animals- Reistertown, MD

October 23, 2013, Reisterstown, MDLittle Sarah Jayne Orton was a special child who devoted her short five years of life to helping homeless animals.  On October 10th, five year old Sarah of Finksburg suddenly passed away.  Her tragic passing gives pause to remember how fragile life is.  Sarah would ask that you not forget those who are unable to speak for themselves, in particular, the homeless animals.  The Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation was created by the Orton family to memorialize the loving life of their five year old daughter, Sarah, to help support the care of the animals at Baltimore Humane Society.

Sarah Jayne loved all animals and lived her short life doing all she could to help and care for them.  For her fifth birthday on May 15th, Sarah specifically asked that all birthday gifts be given as donations to Baltimore Humane Society, the shelter where her own dog, Scooter, had been adopted before Sarah was even born.  This selfless little girl felt she had all she needed — a loving family and warm home.  For her, the best birthday gift you could give was one that helped the homeless animals.

Sadly, Sarah passed away suddenly just a few months after her fifth birthday.  To honor this sweet little girl’s life, the Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation has been created.  All donations to the Foundation go to the care of the animals at Baltimore Humane Society’s no-kill shelter.  Donations can be made by mail to Baltimore Humane Society at 1601 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown 21136, or donating online at www.bmorehumane.org/donate/sarah-jayne-orton-memorial-foundation.

Sarah’s aunt, Nicole Mathews, says that her niece’s favorite color was “rainbow.”  “We all take comfort,” Ms. Mathews says, “in knowing that Sarah is now with her beloved pets at the Rainbow Bridge looking down and smiling that her legacy lives on.”

A plaque will be erected on the Baltimore Humane Society dog kennel in honor of Sarah.

The Orton family is available for interviews.

And the wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (ISAIAH 11:6-9)
