Willits pet adoption weekend ‘pretty successful,’ says Barksdale

Three lucky dogs found new homes last weekend thanks to a Willits pet adoption event for the Humane Society of Inland Mendocino County.

Humane Society Volunteer Taffy Montgomery was at the shelter Saturday morning and watched as more than 20 of the shelter's dog-walking volunteers loaded up 20 dogs for adoption and took them to Willits.

Local businessman Bill Barksdale hosted the event which, he says, is his way of contributing and giving something to the shelter volunteers who work so hard.

“You can't imagine more dedicated people,” he said.

Two dogs went home on day one of the two-day adopt-a-thon and a third dog got a new address on the second.

“All in all it was pretty successful,” Barksdale said.

Even the pets that weren't adopted received lots of love and attention and some good long walks around Willits.
