Two families were at the Marion County Dog Shelter at the start of adoption hours this morning as seven dogs rescued from a warehouse in Brooks last month were made available for adoption.
Elayne and Chuck Epperson of Salem, who have adopted from the shelter before, were on the market for a medium- to large-sized service dog.
“For a service dog, you need a dog that accepts everybody,” Elayne Epperson said.
It took no longer than a few minutes after the doors to the kennel hallway were opened that they laid eyes on Daphne, a white and orange, kind-natured dog that was seized from Willamette Animal Rescue about a month ago.
“That’s why we tried to get here first,” Elayne Epperson said.
