CHILLICOTHE — Board members of the Ross County Humane Society voted unanimously the shelter will no longer house cats and kittens or offer them up for adoption.
Instead, the facility will use the space formally dedicated to cats to kennel dogs and puppies. “It was a tough decision,” said Ross County Humane Society Board President Cindy Adkins.
“We thought long and hard about this and we think that our new policy will promote pet owner responsibility.” She also hopes the policy change will raise awareness about the importance of having animals, both dogs and cats spayed and neutered. ABC6/FOX28 asked if the decision would impact the cat population in Ross County if owners had now where to drop off their cats. “That was one of our concerns,” said Adkins. The humane society says they are partnering with two area cat shelters. Among them Purr…Fect Companion Cat Adoption Center and Sanctuary. “I think this will be a great partnership,” said Leona Bobo who manages the shelter on North Mulberry Street.
