Visitors to the new PetSmart, 2019 Forest Ave., may meet animals available for adoption through Butte Humane Society. A permanent housing area inside the store holds up to eight adoptable cats in cozy cubicles fronted with glass, allowing passersby to see the felines up close.
Viewing hours are during the store’s business hours. They are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Adoption applications for cats housed at PetSmart are processed at Butte Humane Society’s Cat Adoption Center, 587 Country Drive, during the society’s adoption hours, 2-6 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Additionally, Butte Humane Society staff brings mobile adoption events to PetSmart on the first and third Saturdays of the month. From 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., society staff will be at the store with adoptable dogs and cats. Applications will be processed at the store on those days. The next one is Jan. 19, according to PetSmart store manager Theresa Dahlberg.
“I love having the adoptions here. I’m so proud of it and I think it’s been very successful,” said Dahlberg.
