Get Out: A Christmas Carol; Purrfect Pet Adoption

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit this weekend.

1. SANTA CLAUS AT NEWPARK MALL

Where/When: NewPark Mall, Newark; Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: It’s the last weekend before the Christmas holiday. If your children haven't taken photos with Santa yet, this is your last chance at the local mall. As a bonus, all children who visit Santa will get free reindeer antlers.

Pricing: The first print is $14.95, with additional prints costing $7.95 each.

2. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS AND CANNED FOOD DRIVES

Where/When: Queen Anne Court and Basswood Court in Union City; Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

Why Go: You don't need to go far to see great holiday displays. As many locals know, Queen Anne Court lights up with Christmas cheer every year. The display is also a fundraiser for the Alameda County Food Bank. Similarly, the Tamarack Knolls neighborhood is also inviting the community to check out their Christmas Lights and donate non-perishable food items for the Tri-City Volunteers. The collection barrel is located on Basswood Court, just off of Mission Boulevard and Tamarack Drive.
