Pet adoption program in Long Beach offers holiday discounts

An effort to adopt out hard-to-place animals is offering a discount through Dec. 23 to help find homes for overlooked pets.

Long Beach Animal Care Services is participating in the “12 Pets of Christmas” program, organized by the Los Angeles-based nonprofit Found Animal Foundation.

The promotion seeks to increase adoptions and reduce euthanasia by placing 12 categories of animals: adult cats, large dogs, black pets, pit bull-type breeds, pets with minor medical needs, senior pets, overweight pets, bonded pairs, shy pets, adult Chihuahua or Chihuahua mixes, “keep alone” pets and exotics.

“Every pet deserves a home for the holidays,” said Found Animals executive director Aimee Gilbreath. “While these 12 categories of pets may not be as flashy as puppies or purebreds, they are wonderful family companions, with lots of love to give.”

Discounts are $30 for cats, $40 for dogs and 50 percent off exotics up to $40. Coupons are available at or at Long Beach Animal Care Services, 7700 E. Spring St.

Animal Care Services is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday (adoption hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
