Cat centre needs new scratching posts!

Writing this column is a great excuse to visit the animal rehoming centres in our local area and meet many of the wonderful animals and staff there.

I can see how they all use the resources available to them, to develop their own unique approach to looking after animals in their care. This week I went to the RSPCA’s Cat Adoption Centre at Southall to meet Steed and Gambit.

For those of you who haven’t been there, each cat at the Centre lives in a pod which has an outside area where they get fresh air and exercise and a smaller, inside area where they can be warm and cosy.

The Centre has 47 pods (plus isolation and maternity units) and, at present, is home to 97 cats/kittens. It’s not surprising, therefore, that their equipment is subject to lots of wear and tear. In particular, they could do with some new cat scratching posts – especially the tower sort where cats can sit at different levels. If you have one you no longer need, please consider giving it to the Centre where it will be put to good use.
