Over 800 pets get a new home in Jacksonville fairgrounds event

Lindsay Ingram and Justin Smith drove up from Orange Park Sunday looking for a dog to adopt. Though hundreds of dogs had already found homes at the big Home for the Holiday adoption event at the fairgrounds, there’s were plenty to choose from.

But none was quite right … until.

“We looked at every dog here,” Smith said, “and we were leaving. But Tory was sitting in the last cage. She has that cute little underbite that looks like she’s smiling.”

After all the necessary introductions, petting, discussions, more petting and then paperwork, Tory was theirs.

In all, more than 803 pets found home during the three-day event.

It had been a long wait for some like Tory, a small, three-year-old boxer mix. She’d been in the shelter system since February.
