All month, Orange County Animal Services has been waiving adoption fees for pets 6 years and older. These senior pets will also be gifted with a special toy designed for their age group. The adoption promotion aims to find loving, forever homes for the shelter’s many homeless senior pets. There’s still a couple of weeks left!
“National Adopt a Senior Pet Month is something we look forward to every year,” said Dil Luther, division manager of Orange County Animal Services. “It’s very important to us to highlight our senior pets because these are often times the best pets. Most senior pets are already housebroken, leash trained and much calmer than younger dogs.”
Last year the division saved the lives of 30 senior pets. This year the shelter hopes to find homes for at least 40 senior pets. The promotion waives adoption fees, which are usually $55 for dogs and $40 for cats.
“Senior pets make exceptional additions to any family, but they are especially good fits for folks that enjoy a more laid-back pace,” said Luther. “Whether taking leisurely walks, snuggling on the couch or just enjoying each other’s companionship, senior pets bring a unique kind of joy into people’s lives.”
