Hinsdale Humane Society open house promotes new cat adoption policy

The Hinsdale Humane Society wants more cats to find safe homes. The organization will waive its adoption fee for cats 1 year or older effective Nov. 3.

The No-Fee Feline Adoption program has been adopted at shelters across the county.

“It has been so successful in other areas, we thought we would do it here, so we could find more homes for homeless cats,” said Pam Salomone, the society’s special events director.

The adoption fees for cats and kittens ranged from $50 to $175. Senior citizens, however, were not charged a fee to adopt older cats.

To promote the no-fee feline policy, the humane society is holding an Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. People who adopt a cat during the open house will receive a gift bag filled with pet treats, toys and a photo button of their new pet.

“We always have plenty of cats to pick from,” Salomone said.

Face painters will transform children’s faces into a kitty face. Visitors may enjoy kitty cupcakes, temporary tattoos and other free activities.
