CCSPCA hosts children’s birthday parties

The parking lot at the Cumberland County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was packed from open to close on this busy Saturday. Many were bringing their pets in to be updated on their shots at our vaccine clinic. Several were adopters coming in to visit animals — an entire litter of puppies was adopted! We also were visited by a group of children celebrating a birthday. Ten-year-old Chloe Wilson of Millville opted to have her birthday at the shelter because she loves animals and wanted to share this with her friends and family on her special day.

Our conference room has many purposes — puppy playroom, temperament evaluation center, professional meeting room and more — but on Saturday it was party central. Decorations and balloons adorned the room, snacks were served in cute dog bowls, and Chloe’s mom made adorable paw print cupcakes. We made cat toys using paper bags, ribbon, cardboard tubes and children’s creativity. The kids were really excited to be able to visit our cat adoption room and hand out their toys to the cats and kittens. We took a special tour of the shelter and played a game. In addition to meeting hundreds of adoptable animals during our shelter tour, the children had a meet-and-greet with some of our especially kid-friendly pets for adoption. They met a black pit bull puppy named Maggie and several kittens — sister-and-brother pair Morticia (a torti) and Pubert (a gray tabby), and Chloe’s personal favorite, a purring beige boy named Moonie.
