Event raises funds for Humane Society for Greater Nashua

Dogs of all shapes and sizes, their owners and families are invited to join the Humane Society for Greater Nashua for their annual Walktoberfest from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Merrimack. The day is about having fun with your dogs and family and raises much-needed funds for the pets awaiting new homes at the shelter.

Walktoberfest features a morning dog walk, more than 35 pet friendly vendors, fun activities just for kids, an animal communicator, food and beer, and a raffle with more than 100 fabulous prizes.

New this year will be an agility demonstration by champion dogs, and an opportunity to let your dog try some of the agility equipment.

“Walktoberfest is an amazing day, but the highlight is our dog adoption showcase, which is held immediately after the morning dog walk. We bring 25-30 shelter dogs that are available for adoption on-site and introduce them to the crowd,” said Karen D. Bill, executive director. “Last year 17 shelter dogs were adopted at Walktoberfest. We love to see our dogs leave the event with their new families!”

The Humane Society is asking people to also register to raise pledges to support the many pets at the shelter awaiting adoption. Start your fundraising page by visiting www.hsfn.org to help them reach their goal of $25,000 raised by walkers.

Admission is free to those who raises pledges and $5 for those who do not. Children ages 11 and younger also can attend for free.

The festivities start at 9 a.m. with vendors opening up and registration for the morning dog walk which starts at 10 a.m. Dogs are welcome all day but must be leashed, licensed and up-to-date with all vaccines.

Music will be provided by DJ Bernie of Perfect Entertainment. There also will be food from Weathervane Seafood and Ian’s Granite State Grill, and a beer tent for ages 21 and older.
