The Humane Society of North Iowa has three activities planned this month:
• Back to School Cat Adoption Event — the “Back to School Cat Adoption Event” is being held throughout the month of September. The event promotes the adoption of shelter cats over the age of 6 months by reducing their adoption fee to $75. The adoption fee covers spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations and all other appropriate vet work.
“We are hoping that by offering a reduced fee, people will be encouraged to adopt a new feline friend,” said Sybil Soukup, executive director of the organization. “Sometimes people may be tempted to get a cat for free from a neighbor or from another source, but by the time you do all the necessary vet work, that free kitty is actually much more expensive than an adopted one.”
To see a complete listing of all available cats for adoption, visit the Humane Society of North Iowa’s website at www.hsni.org.
• Rescued Recipes Cookbook — The HSNI is also launching a new cookbook entitled Rescued Recipes. The book features more than 300 recipes that have been submitted by volunteers, friends and staff of the HSNI and includes several recipes for the four-legged members of the family.
The books are $10 each and are for sale at the shelter. All proceeds benefit the animals of the HSNI.
• Annual Fall Festival Fundraiser — The HSNI will hold its 13th annual Fall Festival Fundraiser noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the National Guard Armory in Mason City. The event features a silent auction, bake sale, concession stand, kids activity corner and “flea-less” market.
Guest speakers will include Staff Sgt. Dianne Raymond from Service Dogs for Veterans, and Katie McColloch who will perform a “Disc Dogs” demonstration with her disc champion dog (and Humane Society of North Iowa alumnus), Riley. For more details about this event visit www.hsni.org.
