Hurricane Isaac: Mandatory evacuation means SPCA helped just in time

Hurricane Isaac continues to pound the Gulf Coast today as morning weather forecasts reported 4 inches of rainfall per hour and a mandatory evacuation as a major dam threatens to collapse.

The Jefferson Parish SPCA planned ahead by sending 190 adoptable animals to the SPCA of Texas in order to make room for those displaced by the storm. Staff had hoped to ride out the weather in order to care for the animals there at the facility, but that hope has suddenly been abandoned after they received orders to evacuate.

A spokes person for the SPCA of Texas spoke out about what is happening. “We were happy to help out by taking so many animals from New Orleans. Thanks to our combined efforts and quick action the evacuation plan could be executed swiftly and smoothly.”
