Select animal shelters in Los Angeles County are participating in Found Animal Foundation’s “9 Lives for $9” event to increase adult cat adoptions in the Long Beach and Los Angeles area.
According to Long Beach city officials, any cat older than nine months can be adopted for just $9 at Long Beach Animal Care Services, spcaLA and 17 other Los Angeles shelter locations until Aug. 31.
The $9 adoption fee for adult cats includes an examination by a veterinarian, FeLV and FIV testing, spaying or neutering, microchipping and vaccinations, officials said.
SpcaLA Director of Communications and Marketing Ana Bustilloz said cat adoption fees normally cost $105 and that the Found Animals’ event has helped raise cat adoptions from their shelter significantly.
“In June we saw a 59 percent increase in adult cat adoptions, and in July we saw a 95 percent increase,” Bustilloz said.
The spcaLA adoption screening process is the same for the promotion as it would be for the regulation adoption fee, she said.
The Found Animals Foundation is a privately funded Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare issues. The Foundation works to reduce the use of euthanasia in shelters by supporting programs including pet adoption, spay/neuter services, pet identification and sterilization research.
