Special rates for smaller pets available in August – San Jose Mercury News

August is traditionally a month when shelters are overloaded with kittens. Following tradition, Friends of Alameda Animal Shelter is chock full with adorable kittens and delightful little dogs. To help these animals find new homes, FAAS is having a Pet Adoption Special: Half Price for Half Pints. Kittens under six months or dogs under 20 pounds are half price until the end of August. The shelter is open on from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda. Visit our website at www.alamedaanimalshelter.com.

The excitement of looking for a new pet can sometimes overshadow the important questions that should be asked before adoption. Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter asks that you consider the following questions before adoption:

Why do I want a pet?

Is now a good time to adopt?

Can I provide all the care and expense for this pet’s entire life?

If you need more information, an online search for “things to consider before getting a pet” should provide ample information.

Enter the FAAS Photo Calendar contest! This is a great way to show off your favorite pet(s) and win one of the coveted 13 pet-of-the-month spots on the upcoming FAAS 2013 calendar. Go to https://www.360photocontest.com/152 to enter for a small donation.
