New York City’s Algonquin Hotel cat in residence Matilda invites the public to a party Aug. 8, 2012, with a reception, cat adoption event and cat fashion showcase to benefit NY Save, a pet financial assistance organization. Algonquin cat Matilda will also celebrate the reopening of her home, which received major renovations this spring.
Hosted by pet lifestyle expert Sandy Robins, the event starts with cat adoption opportunities from Bideawee Adoptions, who will have shelter cats on site starting at 3 p.m. The reception starts at 5 p.m. and features “Mew-dels” in Meow Wear cat fashion in the Algonquin Hotel lobby adjacent to the famed Round Table restaurant. Guests can enjoy raffles with prizes such as wicker kitty pods, stylish leather cat collars and a KittyScape cat amusement center. A $25 entrance donation to NY Save is requested.
The Algonquin Hotel has had a resident cat since the 1930s. Ragdoll mix breed Matilda is the 10th cat at this famous landmark hotel, which adopted her from North Shore Animal League. “Matilda plays such an important role as she provides a ‘fur fix’ for people who miss their cats when they are traveling,” Robins said. “People come from all over the world to stay at the hotel to meet her!”
