Such a Wonderful Cat: Take a Chance On Purpose – Five Towns, NY Patch

From Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh. NY:

Hi, I’m Chance and I’m looking for a loving home. I’m considered a special needs cat. I came into the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, my current temporary home, as a stray with a fractured leg. I received the necessary surgery and am healing nicely. I am looking for a home where I can stretch out and enjoy being part of a family!

In recognition of the nationally recognized “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month,” the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter is waiving all adoption fees on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The spring is “kitten season,” during which thousands of newborn kittens enter animal shelters.

“With the increased numbers of kittens surrendered to animal shelters nationwide during ‘kitten season,’ now is the purr-fect time to adopt a cuddly friend of your own,” said Animal Shelter Director Cynthia Iacopella. “This June 23, we are asking residents to help provide homes for these adorable cats.”

In addition to the waived adoption fees, there is no charge for a spay/neuter, rabies vaccine or microchipping. Katarina, a shelter volunteer, will be on hand in a cat costume to take pictures with residents – also at no charge.

Raffles and baked goods will be sold to benefit The Tails of Hope Fund, which helps finance extraordinary medical surgeries and other costs for sick animals. In addition, all residents who bring a toy or treat for a shelter animal will be eligible for a door prize.
