All of the dogs at the White County Animal Shelter in Sparta TN will have to be euthanized next week if they cannot be adopted or placed with rescue groups. Sparta is an hour and a half east of Nashville in a very isolated, rural area. The shelter is located at 5600 Gum Spring Mountain Rd in Sparta, TN.
Shelter manager, Ronni Connelly, has worked hard to keep her small rural shelter at a nearly zero euthanasia rate but she is feeling absolutely overwhelmed right now. Connelly says “I currently have 18 dogs at the shelter and only 16 runs. Three [are] in foster care. We’ve been managing okay until the ACO called me last night to let me know he’s picking up 20 more surrenders this week! That means every single dog that’s currently here and doesn’t have an adopter or rescue will be euthanized.”
To the community, Connelly says “I’m absolutely begging for your help! The media is coming out to do a story and I’m calling all local rescues I can find. I’ll beg for foster homes to get them off property for a couple weeks to meet transport requirements and I’ll beg for sponsorship money for transport costs and pull fees. I don’t want the ACO killing all these dogs – they’re all wonderful dogs with great temperaments. If you can find room for any dogs at all, please call me for a full list and description of what’s here. We’re way beyond urgent at this point!”
