The first Willits Pet Adoption Day was such a great success, Bill Barksdale and crew are doing it again, on Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Coldwell Banker Realty, 1460 S. Main St.
“The Humane Society said it was one of their most successful events,” Barksdale said. “They felt the Willits community was so supportive, they wanted to start doing this every other month.” Not only did dogs and cats get adopted at the Saturday event, “people kept going down and adopting animals” at the Redwood Valley shelter, Barksdale said.
One of the agents in the Coldwell Banker office, Roxanne Lemos-Neese, went to the shelter and adopted a dog named she just loves named Bella, Barksdale said, “and they’re planning to adopt another dog, too, after Bella settles in.”
This time, the Humane Society is also doing a bake sale, and there will be hotdogs, too, Barksdale said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said. “People can come just to enjoy the animals and eat, they don’t have to adopt.”
Barksdale expects there to be a lot of puppies available for adoption. Last time, at the event and after, the Humane Society was able to adopt out some adult cats, “which is great,” Barksdale said, “as they’re hard to adopt. They have so many beautiful cats. I was down there photographing them yesterday, and there was the most beautiful white cat.”
