Maifest will be held at the Galena Brewery on May 4-6. A fundraiser for Safe Haven, it will include a guided bus tour of breweries, a beer tasting and pet adoption fair.
Brewery tours will run throughout the weekend. On Friday, May 4, a tour will start at 4 p.m. On Saturday, May 5, tour times are 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, the tour will start at 11 a.m.
“The brewery tour will leave from our brewery,” said Galena Brewery co-owner Kathy Cameron. “People will be able to see eight 19th century Galena breweries, which includes a tour of three of them.”
The breweries on the tour are Fulton Brewery, Illinois Brewery, City Brewery, Houy Brewery, Volz Brewery, Blum Brewery, Ennor Brewery and Fink Brewery. There will be commentary during the tour.
Afterwards, tour participants will be brought back to the Galena Brewery for a beer tasting, which is included in the tour price. Six popular beer styles will be offered, including Maifest Ale (Rye Kolsh) from the Galena Brewing Company, Double Trouble (Imperial IPA) from Founders Brewing Company, Ebel’s Weiss (German Hefeweizen) from Two Brothers Brewing Company, Nectar of the Hops (Mead) from Redstone Meadery, Scrimshaw (Pilsner) from North Coast Brewing Company, and Celis White (Belgian style witbier) from Michigan Brewing Company.
