With the goal of saving the lives of homeless pets through adoption, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is taking part in the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, which will be Friday to Sunday. The event is sponsored by Purina Pro Plan, Tidy Cats and Pet
Smart, taking place in all 1,172 PetSmart stores in the United States and Canada.
The Amarillo SPCA is one of more than 2,000 animal-welfare agencies in North America participating. Prospective adopters can find a pet from the SPCA at the PetSmart Charities Adoption Center in PetSmart, 2800 S. Soncy Road.
Adoptable pets will be available at PetSmart from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Coulter Street SPCA location will be open for adoption from noon
to 5 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday but will be closed on Sunday. Pet lovers who are ready to make a lifelong commitment to a homeless pet are encouraged to visit the PetSmart Charities Adoption Center, where the SPCA is showcasing adoptable pets.
