The San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter has a deal in store for cat lovers who attend grand-opening festivities for the shelter’s new enhanced feline facilities from 1 to 4 p.m. April 14 – $25 off the usual $100 adoption fee.
And the shelter isn’t limiting the deal to cats. The $25 discount also will apply to dogs (normally $125) and rabbits (normally $45) from April 14 through May 1.
The Pet Project Foundation and the Coastal Animal Services Authority are partners in the $600,000 cat-room addition, funded mostly with donations, grants and bequests.
Burge Corp., which built the original 2,660-square-foot shelter building in 1996, broke ground in September for the 1,129-square-foot addition.
“It looks fantastic,” said Jennifer Stinett, an animal shelter supervisor. Eight spacious “kitty suites” are the centerpiece of the addition, with big windows and play features, and they already are occupied by cats, Stinett said. The rest of the cat facility is undergoing final touches and is being stocked.
The shelter currently has 22 cats, Stinett said, and the number will grow as “kitty season” begins in April and runs into early fall, when cats produce prolific litters.
