More than $1,500 was raised during this year’s Pet House Challenge benefiting the Pet Adoption & Welfare Society of Carteret.

Teams from Carteret County’s three high schools and Station Club Enterprises built dog houses to enter in the competition, which was held in conjunction with the Coastal Home & Garden Show held March 2-4 in Morehead City.

The dog houses were awarded People’s Choice, Builder’s Choice and Buyers Choice Awards.

West Carteret took the first and second place Peoples Choice Award for their dog house designed as an RV and another resembling a country home. Station Club took third with its fire truck dog house.

The Builder’s Choice Awards went to Station Club, first place; West Carteret, second place; and Croatan High School, third for its dog house with rooftop garden.
