Adoptions Needed for Stray Cat Population in Brooke County – WTRF

Cindy’s Fitness Fusion in Follansbee partnered with the Brooke County Animal Shelter for a cat adoption event Saturday.

Around 240 stray cats are packed into one room at the shelter, a problem Shelter Director Donna DeJaro is trying to take care of.

“There are more cats there than I’ve ever seen at the animal shelter and I’ve been there on and off since 1998,” she said.

DeJaro said it is all due to people failing to spay and neuter their cats. This is something she said the tri-state area is dealing with.

This is why the shelter teamed up with Cindy’s Fusion Fitness in hopes of getting some of the cats adopted. Eleven cats were brought there, and four got adopted within one hour.

“Literally, when you walk in the room, they climb your leg,” Cindy Petri, owner of Cindy’s Fusion Fitness said. “It’s really hard to pick a cat out.”
