Shelter dog captures family’s heart and now spreads the joy to others – Lodi News-Sentinel

It had been a year since we lost our beloved border collie mix Cody. He was a faithful family dog for over 16 years. We were considering another dog, but the grieving process takes time. We had just begun visiting nearby animal shelters, and walked away several times with uncertainty and sadness.

Then one Saturday morning, while watching a local morning show, a dog adoption segment came on. In a manner of seconds, a border collie/corgi mix walked across the screen. The coloring and markings were similar to our Cody; and the stout, short-legged, confident, little dog immediately caught my eye. It was love at first sight. The reporter said the dog’s name was Jake. I quickly called the Animal Friends Connection shelter in Lodi and began the adoption process by filling out the questionnaire online. I spilled my heart out in that application.
