Darla’s tale has happy ending – San Antonio Express-News

When we met Darla, the gentle black basset-hound mix had spent several months in Animal Care Services foster care, an overlooked dog who was surrendered to ACS in early October after her owner died.

The Express-News teamed with ACS to find Darla a new home and raise awareness of pet adoption and fostering – a Valentine’s Day gift, if ever there was one, for any pet that’s ever loved and lost or never known the joys of responsible pet ownership.

“She is at home, and we are just blessed to have her,” says Darla’s new owner, Julia Kester, a San Antonio accountant. “I mean, she is family.”

Kester read our Feb. 3 story about Darla and emailed us that day with the subject line “Darla’s cupid” and a simple request: “Has anyone adopted Darla yet? Who (do) I need to call?”
