Butte Humane Society is reducing dog adoption fees by 50 percent through Dec. 31 in order to encourage adoptions and alleviate overcrowding at its shelter.
There are just 24 kennels available due to current construction that has resulted in the loss of 14 kennel spaces. With limited space available to hold adoptable dogs, the shelter is hoping people will choose to adopt this holiday season.
Adoptions were down in November to 49 dogs finding homes, compared November 2010 when 72 dogs were placed in homes.
Animals eligible for adoption have had vaccinations, parasite treatment and or prevention, microchipping, and have been either spayed or neutered.
The shelter is at 2579 Fair St. To see photos of dogs that need homes, visit http://www.buttehumane.org
