The Cat Adoption Team’s Cat Food Bank distributed its 100,000th pound of cat food at Sunday’s distribution since its opening in June 2008. Cat Adoption TeamBy the end of the day, 3,916 pounds of dry cat food had been handed out, along with 854 cans of wet food and 821 pounds of litter. The Cat Food Bank gives out more than one ton of feed each month to struggling pet owners; average monthly distribution is about 2,600 pounds.
The program partnered with Washington County Loaves & Fishes, which operates the Meals on Wheels program, in 2009 to help cat-owning seniors in Beaverton and Forest Grove.
The emergency pet food bank’s largest distribution was Nov. 7, 2010, at which nearly 4,183 pounds of cat food were handed out. This year is on track to break records. The Cat Food Bank is entirely donation-drive, and all supplies are provided by the public. The food bank is open from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Sunday of every month at CAT’s shelter, 14175 SW Galbreath Drive in Sherwood.
