The ringworm is nearly under control. That means about 40 Toy Fox Terriers at the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter will be ready for adoption in about a week.
The shelter rescued the dogs from a private Green Lake County residence where things got out of control for the owners, who were unable to pay to have their pets spayed and neutered.
Shelter staff had to make a quick judgment call when the Green Lake Sheriff’s Office and the Tri-County Health Department followed up on a complaint regarding the family and their 50-plus dogs. The township allows no more than 12 dogs in a private residence.
“I was trying to negotiate the best outcome to get her to turn over the bulk of the dogs,” Rubeck said. “This was better than going back a year from now and finding 200 dogs.”
