The shelter also offers free microchipping, a process that places a safe implant in the animal to reunite lost pets with their owners.
While it seems the new owners will be the ones walking away with all the perks, adopted pets will also be receiving gifts. IAMS will provide giveaways including coupons for free exams and dental kits. Additionally, Manetto Hill Animal Hospital and Jo-Mar Grooming in Floral Park will hold free grooming sessions.
“We thought it would be a nice reward for adopting a pet,” said Cathy Grasman, owner of Jo-Mar Grooming. “We’ll give the pet their first grooming. It will definitely make them feel good.”
At Manetto Hill, animals will be given a complete exam to make sure there are no health issues.
“It gives the owner a peace of mind because it’s something they can check off their list,” said Weiss. “We’re doing all we can, and we’re happy to be part of this.”
Before people can adopt a pet, they have to fill out an application and be screened to ensure that the pet will have a good home. The owner also has to obtain a New York state pet license.
“This is a great way to make pet adoption more affordable,” said Michael Deery, communication director for the Town of Hempstead.
