PetSmart Charities Adoption Center’s grand opening Saturday morning was heralded as a great success by organizers.
The new adoption center’s aim is to help save dogs and cats that would otherwise be euthanized if people were not able to adopt the animals and provide a long-term home for the unwanted pets.
“We had a huge crowd today and a great volunteer turnout,” said Norma Stegall, executive director for the adoption center. “We weren’t expecting this level of reception our first week.”
The new edition to PetSmart opened a week ago and already has more than 39 pets adopted by Midland families. She said they were expecting on average about 20 pets adopted per week. She told the Reporter-Telegram she expects another 20 pets to have new homes by Sunday’s close.
