Boiseans who are thinking about adopting a new dog, cat, puppy or kitten from the Idaho Humane Society can get a look at new pets without driving out to shelter on the south side of the city.
A new pet-adoption center, which will be operated by shelter staff, will open at 10 a.m. Saturday at PetSmart, 130 N. Milwaukee St., Boise. The center’s opening will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting and tours of the center.
The center will house about 45 cats and dogs. Shelter officials hope to see about 20 animals adopted each week, saving an estimated 1,000 animals each year.
PetSmart Charities has a national adoption program that promotes expanded in-store adoption centers like the one opening in Boise. Other enhanced adoption centers have been opened in Texas, Arizona, Delaware, Wisconsin, Colorado and Kentucky.
