The Humane Society of South Mississippi is fighting to the finish line as the deadline to the ASPCA pet adoption challenge approaches.
The organization held the first annual Lollapetooza on Sunday, a grand scale adoption project infused with live music.
Rachel Cotter decided to stop by Lollapetooza, not realizing that she’d be walking away with a new addition to her family. “We came down to check out the walk and the parade and saw this baby and just could not resist,” Cotter said.
Thanks to the unique event, pets like one-year-old Gracey now have a family. Her new owners couldn’t be happier. “We just fell in love. We had to take her home,” said Cotter.
The disassembled cages on the grounds of Centennial Plaza signified that another of the 100 animals on display will no longer be calling a cage home. It’s that moment that motivates volunteers to keep doing what they do. “These beautiful pets need good homes. They need loving people and they need you and the shelter definitely needs you,” Humane Society volunteer Ron Altman said.
