Among a bundle of resolutions that the Jefferson Parish Council approved Wednesday was one confirming Robin Beaulieu as the new director of the animal shelter.
It would have passed unnoticed had Parish President John Young not asked her to stand up in the audience. Beaulieu is stepping into one of the more demanding roles in parish government, becoming the shelter’s sixth director in four years.
“I hope she’s still smiling six months from now,” Councilman Elton Lagasse said.
Beaulieu didn’t take her introduction mildly. After the applause died down, she immediately launched into a pitch for dog adoption. A dog “can teach the family and your children about responsibility, leadership, unconditional love,” Beaulieu said from the back of the council chamber. “So please consider sponsoring, adopting, fostering a dog.”
