Groundbreaking for Clovis Animal Shelter – KGPE CBS47 Fresno

t has been six years in the making, and Monday ground is finally broken on a new animal shelter in Clovis. The ‘Miss Winkles’ Pet Adoption Center is named after former Pelco President and CEO David McDonald’s beloved pet who passed away three years ago. ‘Miss Winkles’ brother ‘Rocky’ was the mascot of Monday’s event, and the loudest attendee.

“This is the beginning of a truly remarkable advancement in the Clovis community for the care of our little furry friends. It’s extremely exciting for me,” said McDonald.

McDonald donated $2 million over a year ago to build the estimated $4 million center. Originally it was slated to be built where the existing, outdated facility stands at Letterman Park. Over the course of the last year and a half, plans changed and it’s now going up in previously zoned park space at Temperance and Sierra.
