Muttsavers Rescue, Inc. and PetCo this weekend are uniting forces to hold a pet adoption event at PetCo in Broomfield. It is a special event, tied to others like it across the country, but a common occurrence at the local store.
MuttSavers Rescue is a Broomfield-based nonprofit dedicated to the rescue of young dogs from overcrowded and under-funded shelters. Each week, volunteers for MuttSavers Rescue collect puppies from shelters lacking the resources to properly care for them, and distribute them within its diverse network of foster caregivers.
Foster caregivers choose the dog, or dogs, they would like to care for, and MuttSavers provides the necessary resources — food, crates, collars, leashes, even medical care — for a healthy and loving environment. The foster family is then expected to provide a stable and consistent setting for the dog until it has been socialized and is ready to find a permanent home.
Fosters families house train, teach basic obedience commands and update MuttSavers regarding any issues surrounding dogs’ health or personality.
