Dog Adoption Story: Baby and the Lawhorns – Knoxville News Sentinel

Pet: Baby, fifteen-year-old beagle

Owner: Jackie Lawhorn

Year of Adoption: 1995

In 1995, I went to the Adopt-A-Pet center on Kingston Pike to look for a golden retriever. I saw a shivering, scared beagle mix dog and her sign said she had been abused by he previous owner and she needed a loving home. She looked right into my eyes and at that instant she had my heart.

I named her Baby which was very fitting for her; poor thing would cower down when you raised your hand in fear you were going to hit her. I saved her life and she saved mine.

One morning I was getting ready for work and I was in the bathroom with the hair dryer going. She’d come in, bark, run out and repeat. I followed her and she was barking at the front door. I could see the door knob being turned and a figure of a man outside trying to get in.
