HSRC aims for record adoptions during ‘National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month’- Richmond County Daily Journal

October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month,” and the Humane Society of Richmond County has a calendar full of fun-filled events to help furry friends find new homes.

The shelter kicked off the month with an Adopt-A-Thon at Petsense, in Albemarle, on Saturday.

“One dog and one cat found great new families at that event,” said Allison Sweatt, program coordinator. “That doesn’t sound like much, but they were both long-timers and we were so happy they found new homes that the trip was worth it. We are also developing a new cat adoption partnership with Petsense, which will allow the store to help us find homes for our cats on an ongoing basis.”

The month is off to a great start for the shelter, which adopted out eight dogs and nine cats so far.
