Humane society celebrating Adopt a Dog Month – The Winfield Daily Courier

Looking for an exercise buddy, a best friend or a constant companion for the senior in your life? What about having a fuzzy face to greet you at the door after a long day at work? If you’re single, taking a dog for a walk is another great way to meet others.

Why choose a dog or puppy now? Cowley County is celebrating National Adopt A Dog Month through October by lowering dog adoption fees by 50 percent. It’s true! This means adoption fees are either $40 or $60 depending on whether the lucky dog you choose has been previously spayed or neutered.

In addition to the financial savings, dogs are good for you. Studies have shown pet owners live longer, healthier lives. For nearly 25 years, research has shown that living with pets provides health benefits. Pets help lower blood pressure and lessen anxiety; they even boost our immunity according to James E. Gern, MD, a pediatrician at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Gern also says that people that have grown up with pets have fewer allergies.
