Animal shelter trying to save lives, win contest – Burlington Times News

Burlington Pet Adoption Center is currently in 22nd place in the ASPCA Save More Lives Challenge.

As of this past week, the adoption center has adopted 171 cats and dogs since Aug. 1 and returned 60 animals to their owners, said Laura Michel, outreach coordinator for Burlington Animal Services.

In order to be eligible to compete for the $100,000 and other prizes in the challenge, the adoption center has to save 627 cats and dogs, which is 300 more lives than were saved during the same time last year between Aug.1 and Oct. 31.

There are currently 49 shelters competing. Burlington Pet Adoption Center is 22nd overall and in fifth place among the 19 shelters competing in the Southeast region.
