The Humane Society of Berks County has announced the introduction of its new “One Penny Stray Pets” adoption program. The new promotion, launched Sept. 6, offers adoptions for a single penny, for any animal which entered its animal shelters as a stray.
The program will be in effect through the last day of summer, Thursday, Sept. 22.
The Humane Society hopes the new program will not only help get more pets adopted, but will also serve a reminder that hundreds of strays are brought to the Humane Society each year.
“There are a lot of misconceptions and, frankly, a little misinformation which leads people to believe the HSBC doesn’t accept strays,” said Karel Minor, HSBC Executive Director. “This is not only false, it is dangerous for the owners of animals who may not think to look for their lost strays at our facilities as a result.”
