Jake’s Place, a shelter in a South Buffalo apartment building, is all about the cats. Nearly 70 cats — from flashy calicos to striped orange felines to several jet-black kitties with bright green eyes —roam free in what was once a three-bedroom apartment in a large house on a tree-lined street.
Cats stretch out on padded platforms and gaze out the windows. They crowd into a closet with shelves made cozy by clean towels and washable beds. They flop on the cool wood floors and cuddle up in the corners of the couches. One surveys the room from a large basket in the center of the dining room table.
