As part of an effort to combat ever-rising numbers of abandoned and neglected animals in Sandusky County, the county humane society is waiving cat adoption fees for seniors each Wednesday.
Humane Society of Sandusky County President Joanne McDowell said the shelter, which is normally equipped to handle about 100 cats, has nearly 200.
“And more are being dumped on the shelter daily,” McDowell said. “We are just drowning out here; it’s got to be the economy.”
Anyone older than 55, she said, can apply to adopt a 2-year-old or older cat for free on Wednesdays.
