Pet adoptions set for Saturday – Las Cruces Sun-News

The Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley will conduct two off-site pet adoption events on Saturday, with dogs, puppies, cats and kittens looking for new homes.

Adoptions will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Las Cruces.

From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., adoptions also will be held at the Strut Your Mutt event at Young Park, also in Las Cruces. People who want to participate in Strut Your Mutt can rent a dog to walk for only $5.

Adoption fees are $75 for dogs/ puppies and $50 for cats/kittens. The fee includes the first set of vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.

Although not available at these off-site events, visitors to the shelter’s offices can purchase microchips for pets that already have homes for $20, and city pet licenses are available to neutered pets for $5 each. Licenses for unneutered pets are $25 each. Proof of spay/neuter is required before a $5 license will be issued. Pet owners also must bring current proof of rabies vaccination for each animal to be licensed.

The shelter also offers low-cost spay/neuter operations at the rate of $35 for dogs and $25 for cats. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the shelter offices.
