Pet store, cat rescue plan to help with cats seized – chillicothegazette.com

A local pet business and a cat rescue have pledged to help with the cats seized Sept. 2 from an East Fifth Street home.

Petland is partnering with North Fork Animal Clinic to provide necessary supplies and assistance to care for more than 40 cats the Chillicothe police seized. The owner, who neighbors said was trying to help others with stray cats, faces a misdemeanor cruelty to animals charge.

The cats are being detained as evidence until a judge determines what to do with them, which can include making them available for adoption. Petland plans to help find homes for the cats that have been vet-checked and determined to be healthy and fit for adoption through its Adopt-A-Pet program at the Chillicothe, Hillsboro, Gallipolis and Athens locations.
