Cat lovers are invited to a groundbreaking at 9 a.m. Monday to launch a $600,000 remodeling and addition to the cat room at the San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter.
Work is expected to take about five months at 221 Avenida Fabricante, San Clemente., resulting in more spacious, comfortable quarters designed to produce healthier, happier, more playful cats and encourage adoptions, shelter officials said.
The cat room at the San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter will replace existing steel cages with more spacious ones and add glass-enclosed “kitty suites” under a renovation project due to break ground Monday.
The Pet Project Foundation and the Coastal Animal Services Authority are partners in what will be known as the Lori Hoenow Cat Adoption Center, named in memory of a former volunteer who left a bequest that is helping to make the 1,100-square-foot addition possible.
The focal point of the addition will be eight spacious “kitty suites,” each with ample space for up to five cats to live together and play on apparatus for climbing and perching, the Pet Project Foundation said in a news release.
