Dog Adoption Story: Daisy Mae and the Richards – Knoxville News Sentinel

Our family adopted our first dog, Daisy Mae, a beagle/dachshund hound mix, from the Almost Home Foundation for Christmas 2009. This was going to be my first dog ever, and I was really nervous about having one in the house.

My previous experience with people who had dogs in the house was that house training was very difficult and had terrible consequences. In a house with three children it obviously had to be a family dog, but it also had to be trained!

So we set out looking for an older dog-no puppies. Almost Home is a collection of foster homes that take in pets that are abandoned or abused. So when we first went to the foster family’s home, Daisy Mae was bouncing around everywhere and jumping on everyone. I was not crazy about how hyper she was at all! But the kids wanted her, so I agreed. She turned out to be the best dog ever!
